A Food Reserve Agency, FRA, employee in Kalomo District has been arrested over the alleged stealing of 2,278 bags of 50-kilogramme white maize valued at K774,520.

The employee, who works as a Marketing Assistant, was responsible for managing and accounting for maize stocks at the FRA depot in Kalomo.

A routine internal audit conducted in May 2026 reportedly found the maize stocks intact.

However, a subsequent audit revealed a shortage of 2,278 bags of 50-kilogramme white maize.

The employee was asked to account for the missing maize but allegedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation, prompting the FRA to report the matter to Police.

Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo has told one love radio news that the matter was reported at Kalomo Police Station on Friday, September 18, 2026, around 21:30 hours by an FRA representative.

Mr. Namalongo says the employee has since been apprehended and is detained in lawful Police custody, while investigations are ongoing.
