The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has called on workers to take an active role in supporting the country’s development, saying the responsibility of building Zambia should not be left to the President alone.

ZCTU president Blake Mulala said Zambian workers should find ways of contributing to the Grow Zambia agenda and help turn the country’s development goals into reality.

Speaking during a press briefing, Mr Mulala said the union is happy with the recent cabinet appointments made by President Hakainde Hichilema.

Meanwhile, ZCTU has pledged to support newly appointed Lusaka Mayor Chitambala Mwewa in his efforts to keep the city clean, saying the cleanliness and beauty seen in other countries is partly a result of the work done by citizens and workers and says the union will support the mayor’s efforts.

β€œThe Lusaka mayor needs [the] support of every citizen, Lusaka has been dirty. W e must not allow indiscipline and lawlessness by a small group of people thinking they are a government on their own,” he said.

And Mr. Mulala said as more ministers are appointed, the union expects competent men and women who will put the interests of the country first and avoid using their positions for personal enrichment.
