A teacher at Inema Primary School has urged schools and all learning institutions to step up hygiene measures to prevent the spread of cholera, as the country records 3 hundred and 4 cases and 11 deaths from the outbreak.

Speaking to One love radio news, Rachael Miyanda said more intentional efforts are needed to strengthen hygiene measures and protect learners, particularly as the outbreak has so far affected seven districts across five provinces.

Ms. Miyanda said the school has placed buckets of water in classrooms and is conducting class-to-class sensitisation on cholera, hygiene and cleanliness, calling on fellow teachers to take the outbreak seriously.

She said learners should also be equipped with information on cholera so they can take prevention messages to their parents and communities.

Miyanda said using learners as messengers can help extend cholera prevention efforts beyond schools and into homes and communities.
